One of the finest big volume rafting and kayaking trips in Nepal – spectacular, remote, jungle clad canyons, BIG white water and abundant wildlife in the Far West.
The Karnali is Nepal's longest and largest river and with its tributaries it drains most of the Far West of Nepal – the ‘Wild West’ as many people call it. The area that it flows through is wild and relatively unpopulated with some of the most pristine jungle scenery in Nepal and abundant wildlife.
Rafting:
In
1987 the Nepalese Ministry of Tourism asked
an international team of experts to survey the
Karnali and
report on the potential for commercial
rafting. They said in their report,: ‘ It
is the unanimous
view of this team that this is
one of the finest rafting rivers in the world’.
What else to
say?
The rapids on the top half of the river start fairly easy, but then as you come into the main canyon it becomes a roller coaster with rapids on every bend.
The second half of the Karnali has little white water but makes up to it with incredible jungle, wilderness and wildlife.
Kayaking:
Most of the comments on the
Karnali as a rafting
trip also apply to the kayaker – this has
some of the best big white water
rapids in Nepal
and is an incredible river for the expert paddlers
or the advanced intermediate who is happy
on big
water. Big rapid follows big rapid, with lots
and lots of play potential.
